Getting Closer to God

It can sound like such an ethereal, nebulous idea to feel God’s presence. His presence doesn’t typically get viewed as something certain enough to expect or put your hope in — every single day. It sounds like this extraordinary but elusive thing that only “holy people” can get.

I admit that when I listen to praise music by artists like United Pursuit, Bethel, and The Upper Room, I get mushy, gushy emotional goosebumps. Unfortunately, whenever I entered my mum’s kitchen on a Sunday, I would experience the same emotions. Have you ever experienced that excitement? If we’re not careful, we can mistakenly think of feelings and musical compositions as constantly serving as the entrance to God’s presence.

However, in actuality, being in God’s presence is like being with your spouse, your child, or your little relative. With the exception of the one fact that God never leaves, being in His presence is just as easy and certain for those who desire it.

Can you give that an “Amen”? It is real.

What a sad, frustrating way to live when you may stroll through life without ever feeling God’s nearness, just like you can be in the same room with a friend and not truly notice them. It’s possible to lose track of a friend when you’re dining with them at Chicken Republic because you’re preoccupied with social media or your own negative thoughts.

Don’t spend your life being so preoccupied with your tasks that you lose awareness of God’s presence, my friend. He is awaiting you today with patience. Learning to live in God’s presence is not only a necessity; it is our greatest need as humans. Jesus was created to go before Him. Before the fall of man, before the earth was spinning at 67,000 miles per hour on Jesus, Jesus, axis, there was a lovely location named Eden at the start of the epic story. There lived the first pair of humans to set foot on the globe. They relished in God.

With Him, they strolled. He was spoken to by them. Truthfully, He delighted in them far more than they delighted in Him.

God’s presence has made us whole, after all. And we have to go back to Him.

Not on social media, but toward Jesus.
Run to Jesus, not to your wallet.
Instead of pursuing prestige, go to Jesus.
Go to Jesus instead of cheap sex.
Not drugs, but Jesus.
Go to Jesus instead of alcohol.

Run to God because He is the only source of healing, acceptance, security, identity, and purpose.

It’s critical to maintain a keen awareness of the presence of the Holy Spirit among all the competing demands and deceptive wants. The beauty of complete satisfaction—which only comes from our devoted Heavenly Father—can be so easily overlooked.

We have all become exhausted as a result of our life’s fruitless endeavors. celebrating the things God despises and the things God loves in Jesus. We’re all accountable for it. But I can assure you that if you follow Jesus and practice being in God’s presence right now, you will be richly blessed.

God is always around. You always have His presence with you, in all ways. He is eager to establish himself. Rest in the knowledge of his presence and give him today’s opportunity to reveal himself to you.

CONCLUSION

According to Psalm 27:4, we can find hope in the presence of God, not in the safety of this world. According to the Bible, “I have sought for one thing, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to see the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.”

This search, this effort of looking for the living God, is never in vain or fruitless. To seek God is to profoundly meet God. Put your emotions aside; your faith is growing; let go of your confusion; God is already working in your favor. More so than the oxygen you breathe, he is already nearby. He has boundless delight and rewards waiting for you as you become closer to Him today.
